Opening night of the performance took place on 28th of October 2016

French composer Jacques Offenbach wrote captivating music of his comic operas on topical subjects. They always had a place ridicule, satire, frivolity, and touching lyrics and, of course, unbridled fun.
"Orpheus in the Underworld" - the first success of Offenbach in the genre, which he called an opera buffa (1858). This is the clearest example of burlesque performances, in the future, even received the name "offenbahiad". They composer features parodies of serious opera, popular ancient stories, as if twisting them inside out.

In the St. Petersburg Theatre of Musical Comedy "Orpheus in the Underworld" first saw the limelight in 1931.

On the production version of the works of contemporary People's Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov. Ten years ago, his performance of "Bluebeard" on the product of Offenbach, delivered on the stage musical comedy, has been awarded the highest theatrical prize of St. Petersburg "Gold spotlights". And over the years, the director has repeatedly appealed to the heritage of outstanding composer, performing performances of his works at various stages of the world.

For the new play at the Theatre of Musical Comedy the original libretto by Hector Cremieux processed. The plot of the ancient myth of Orpheus, descended into hell for his wife Eurydice, which built "Orpheus in the Underworld" features found close to the Russian audience really. The images of the Olympic gods manifested signs of public familiar (and not only) people, not so long ago occupied the horizon of the former Soviet Union.

Comic situation remained unchanged and unexpected situations in which characters fall into this very unusual history. As well as exquisite music, a meeting which will be a boon for music gourmets. After all, despite the fact that the famous cancan, which became the hallmark of the operetta genre - comes precisely from "Orpheus in the Underworld", Russian viewers virtually unfamiliar with the music of the French classic. And, referring to the work of Offenbach, Theatre musical comedy genre continues to acquaint judges with the best samples of world music repertoire.
